The LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses.
Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses,
the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders;
and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied.
Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad,
were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp.
They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent;
yet the spirit came to rest on them also,
and they prophesied in the camp.
So, when a young man quickly told Moses,
“Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp, ”
Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’aide, said,
“Moses, my lord, stop them.”
But Moses answered him,
“Are you jealous for my sake?
Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!
Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!” Numbers 11:25- 29
For many years I prayed for gifts of tongue
I never could be enough open to do it
There was Charismatic conference last spring in New Orleans
Friend of mine let me listen to talks on cd from that conference
It happen that I was on the way from Gatlinburg
I started to listen to the talks on cd
Very interesting talks. People were also praying there in tongues
And some how I began to speak in tongues too
For next five hours of drive I was praying in tongues, and praising the Lord
It was just amazing experience
And I wasn’t at the conference
That event changed my life
I see it now why I had to wait so long for the gift of tongues-
With it came grace of inner healing
I experienced so much freedom in my life.
Things I struggled for many years I was able to say no to them . As Jesus is asking in the Gospel
I found strength to cut of some bad stuff in my life
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed
than with two hands to go into Gehenna,
into the unquenchable fire.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off.
It is better for you to enter into life crippled
than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye
than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna,
where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'”
Mark 9:45-49
And here I see how important for us is to continually beg God for his spirit
The radical change Jesus calls us is often impossible without Gods spirit
We need God’s spirit to first admit that there is problem and we need God’s spirit in order to take those radical steps and cut off what leads us to sin:
Bad habits. Bad friend. Addiction. Work. Anything.
Second where we need so much God’s spirit is the journey of stewardship
Using just our own eyes we may say that there is not too much I could do for Gods church.
I need the spirit of God to be able to see what is the real situation
What are the venues I can or need to be involved more and share my time talents and treasure with our community
On our own we may not see enough!
