Jesus responds to our human experience of being deaf and mute
How often do you listen to people but completely don’t understand them…
Or even worse, you talk to others and it looks like we miss each other.. we talk on different frequencies..
It can be your boss, or spouse, child, or your friend.
GospelMK 7:31-37
Again Jesus left the district of Tyre
and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
into the district of the Decapolis.
And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment
and begged him to lay his hand on him.
He took him off by himself away from the crowd.
He put his finger into the man’s ears
and, spitting, touched his tongue;
then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him,
“Ephphatha!”— that is, “Be opened!” —
And immediately the man’s ears were opened,
his speech impediment was removed,
and he spoke plainly.
He ordered them not to tell anyone.
But the more he ordered them not to,
the more they proclaimed it.
They were exceedingly astonished and they said,
“He has done all things well.
He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
So Jesus offers us help too.
He takes that poor guy on the side
Its important clue for us
He wants to take us on the side too.
Every day. To touch our ears, to touch our tongue
To restore in us ability to hear – others, ourselves and God
And to speak and be understood..
How does it happen?
Today in all USA we are talking for next few weeks about STEWARDSHIP
We are pondering once again:
What does it mean that I’m called to be good steward?
It is basically about 3 qualities, characteristic:
TIME TALENT TREASURE
Today we start with first: TIME
Time for God. I need in my life a time to be taken by God on a side like that deaf man from the Gospel
It is very difficult to share with others love and peace and hope if we first are not receiving it from God..
How often do you listen to people but completely don’t understand them…
But even worse, to talk to others and it looks like we miss each other.. we talk on different frequencies..
Without time with God.. it wont work..
We come to God so he can teach us how to speak. So he can open our ears.. to hear others better and be able to answer to their needs
Prayer is like going on to mountain top
Like climbing
It is difficult
But how different is the landscape high on the hill from one at the bottom of the mountain!
To become good steward , I need to share in God’s vision
I need first climb the mountain to see things more from his perspective
And then go down back to noise, duties, tasks and fallow what I’ve seen there on the mountain
You may ask what if I don’t hear God on prayer?
Then at least by the struggle and effort you put into prayer, you let God to teach you skills that come from “climbing”.
He still teaches me a lot even if it doesn’t looks like that
So how much do you invest into your prayer life?
How much do you invest into survival skills that only intimate friendship with God can give ?
