Storm on The Sea. Homily for The Fathers Day

Jesus says to his disciples:

“Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”

For me human being as you all here, it makes perfect sense to wake up sleeping Jesus.

He was tired, maybe he usually have were hard sleep that nothing could wake him up,

so they see that they are almost sinking and they don’t have control over situation,

and there is their master who like nothing happens is taking nap in the stern on the cushion.

I would be despair and I would wake him up too!

So why his respond is so cold:

“Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”

First Jesus respond is connected with words that we heard at the beginning of the story:

“They took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was.”

Just as he was. What does it mean?

It means that he was completely tired. Worn out. They even may carry him to the boat because he was so tired. Tired by what?

Tired because he was healing and curing people all day, throwing out demons,

Taking care of his people.

And his disciple were helping him too. They were keeping order there, they witnessed how much Jesus loves his people. –

How compassionate his heart is.

He might even not eat lunch and dinner because he didn’t want to stop bringing God’s love to these poor people, left out by everyone else

So why Jesus is saying to them:

“Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”…

…Guys, what did we do all day long? Didn’t we heal hundreds of people, didn’t we throw so many demons from them?

And what? You think that I will let you die now on this lake?

Where is your faith? You still don’t get anything…that I really care for you and for everyone.

I think that same story may happen to us quite often

Maybe we are not witnessing what apostles saw, but still:

So many inspirations, so many times we were moved by the Holy Spirit, so many times we saw how things happen in miraculous way, and many others,

And still, when there is storm, we are loosing our faith.

We forget that this Jesus who is so quiet now among the waves, not so long ago did some very powerful things in my life

So he is asking me too:

“Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”

It is not enough to have faith in good times. It is necessary to show that faith and trust in Jesus when everything is going wrong.

This is kind of faith we need to pray for.

And connecting this event with fathers day

How many times, we as sons, daughter and wives didn’t believe our fathers in what were they doing?

How often do we criticize our fathers, because we don’t understand their vision,

How often we as children think that my dad doesn’t love me because he doesn’t let me do something..

We need to pray as a wives , sons and daughter for more faith in our fathers.

And maybe among happy father day wishes we need to find strength to say sorry for all these moments we doubted in their wisdom, love and care?

Im reaching to my self too.

God is good.

May he gives us strength to ask for more faith and to do what is right
